Should I Repair Or Replace My Floor Tiles?
When compared to other flooring options, like carpet and hardwood floors, tile is incredibly long-lasting and durable. That being said, they don’t last forever without some TLC. Are your floors looking a little worse for wear? Your floors aren’t going to magically look better one day, so you need to decide what you’re going to do about it. Do you need an entirely new floor laid down? Or, instead, can you have it repaired and revamped? Florida Tile & Grout is here to answer this important question for you!
Step #1 Get your floors seriously clean.
Before anything else, we will come scrub and clean all grime off your floor. Removing all the dirt and stains will give you a clearer picture of your floor’s true wear and tear. Sometimes a deep-down professional tile cleaning can bring your floor right back to a like-new appearance. Once it’s clean you can ask “How bad is the damage to the tile floor?” Are there just a few bad tiles or is the damage significant across many or all of the tiles?
Step #2 Look at the grout
Many times, the true issue lies with the grout and not the actual tiles. Your grout is very porous, which means years of dirt and grime has made it black. It’s possible it’s no longer holding well and your tiles are moving and shifting. In some cases, the floor tiles are still strong and beautiful, but the grout has lost its strength to hold them in place. A full tile and grout repair might not be necessary. It is possible to remove the old grout and reuse the same tiles for a new-looking floor. A professional regrouting project will fix it!
Step #3 Replace problem areas
More than likely, every single tile does not need to be replaced. With the floors cleaned and the grout redone, you’ll be able to see that there’s only a few cracks and chips. Broken and cracked tile repair is possible with adhesives and epoxy. That being said, replacing some and not all of the tiles of the floor may give the floor an inconsistent look unless you are able to match the new tile perfectly with the old. If you are unable to find the exact type, size, color, and design of the tile, you might consider a complete tile replacement for the room or area in question.
Floor tiles are designed to be durable and stand up to years of wear and tear. They will eventually need serious care, though. Your floor has seen better days and you can’t handle the eye-sore anymore. Does the entire floor need to be replaced or can the tiles be salvaged and the floor repaired to look like new?
